CVE-2018-16888 4 Canonical, Netapp, Redhat and 1 more 5 Ubuntu Linux, Active Iq Performance Analytics Services, Element Software and 2 more 2023-11-07 4.7 Medium
It was discovered systemd does not correctly check the content of PIDFile files before using it to kill processes. When a service is run from an unprivileged user (e.g. User field set in the service file), a local attacker who is able to write to the PIDFile of the mentioned service may use this flaw to trick systemd into killing other services and/or privileged processes. Versions before v237 are vulnerable.
CVE-2018-15686 4 Canonical, Debian, Oracle and 1 more 4 Ubuntu Linux, Debian Linux, Communications Cloud Native Core Network Function Cloud Native Environment and 1 more 2023-11-07 7.8 High
A vulnerability in unit_deserialize of systemd allows an attacker to supply arbitrary state across systemd re-execution via NotifyAccess. This can be used to improperly influence systemd execution and possibly lead to root privilege escalation. Affected releases are systemd versions up to and including 239.
CVE-2017-18078 3 Debian, Opensuse, Systemd Project 3 Debian Linux, Leap, Systemd 2023-11-07 7.8 High
systemd-tmpfiles in systemd before 237 attempts to support ownership/permission changes on hardlinked files even if the fs.protected_hardlinks sysctl is turned off, which allows local users to bypass intended access restrictions via vectors involving a hard link to a file for which the user lacks write access, as demonstrated by changing the ownership of the /etc/passwd file.
CVE-2016-7796 3 Novell, Redhat, Systemd Project 9 Suse Linux Enterprise Desktop, Suse Linux Enterprise Server, Suse Linux Enterprise Server For Sap and 6 more 2023-09-12 N/A
The manager_dispatch_notify_fd function in systemd allows local users to cause a denial of service (system hang) via a zero-length message received over a notify socket, which causes an error to be returned and the notification handler to be disabled.
CVE-2021-3997 3 Fedoraproject, Redhat, Systemd Project 3 Fedora, Enterprise Linux, Systemd 2023-05-03 5.5 Medium
A flaw was found in systemd. An uncontrolled recursion in systemd-tmpfiles may lead to a denial of service at boot time when too many nested directories are created in /tmp.
CVE-2018-15687 2 Canonical, Systemd Project 2 Ubuntu Linux, Systemd 2023-04-20 7.0 High
A race condition in chown_one() of systemd allows an attacker to cause systemd to set arbitrary permissions on arbitrary files. Affected releases are systemd versions up to and including 239.
CVE-2018-16866 5 Canonical, Debian, Netapp and 2 more 21 Ubuntu Linux, Debian Linux, Active Iq Performance Analytics Services and 18 more 2023-02-13 3.3 Low
An out of bounds read was discovered in systemd-journald in the way it parses log messages that terminate with a colon ':'. A local attacker can use this flaw to disclose process memory data. Versions from v221 to v239 are vulnerable.
CVE-2018-16865 5 Canonical, Debian, Oracle and 2 more 11 Ubuntu Linux, Debian Linux, Communications Session Border Controller and 8 more 2023-02-13 7.8 High
An allocation of memory without limits, that could result in the stack clashing with another memory region, was discovered in systemd-journald when many entries are sent to the journal socket. A local attacker, or a remote one if systemd-journal-remote is used, may use this flaw to crash systemd-journald or execute code with journald privileges. Versions through v240 are vulnerable.
CVE-2018-16864 5 Canonical, Debian, Oracle and 2 more 11 Ubuntu Linux, Debian Linux, Communications Session Border Controller and 8 more 2023-02-13 7.8 High
An allocation of memory without limits, that could result in the stack clashing with another memory region, was discovered in systemd-journald when a program with long command line arguments calls syslog. A local attacker may use this flaw to crash systemd-journald or escalate his privileges. Versions through v240 are vulnerable.
CVE-2022-4415 1 Systemd Project 1 Systemd 2023-02-02 5.5 Medium
A vulnerability was found in systemd. This security flaw can cause a local information leak due to systemd-coredump not respecting the fs.suid_dumpable kernel setting.
CVE-2022-2526 2 Netapp, Systemd Project 10 Active Iq Unified Manager, H300s, H300s Firmware and 7 more 2023-01-20 9.8 Critical
A use-after-free vulnerability was found in systemd. This issue occurs due to the on_stream_io() function and dns_stream_complete() function in 'resolved-dns-stream.c' not incrementing the reference counting for the DnsStream object. Therefore, other functions and callbacks called can dereference the DNSStream object, causing the use-after-free when the reference is still used later.
CVE-2017-15908 2 Canonical, Systemd Project 2 Ubuntu Linux, Systemd 2022-02-20 7.5 High
In systemd 223 through 235, a remote DNS server can respond with a custom crafted DNS NSEC resource record to trigger an infinite loop in the dns_packet_read_type_window() function of the 'systemd-resolved' service and cause a DoS of the affected service.
CVE-2018-15688 4 Canonical, Debian, Redhat and 1 more 9 Ubuntu Linux, Debian Linux, Enterprise Linux Desktop and 6 more 2022-01-31 8.8 High
A buffer overflow vulnerability in the dhcp6 client of systemd allows a malicious dhcp6 server to overwrite heap memory in systemd-networkd. Affected releases are systemd: versions up to and including 239.
CVE-2018-1049 4 Canonical, Debian, Redhat and 1 more 11 Ubuntu Linux, Debian Linux, Enterprise Linux and 8 more 2022-01-31 5.9 Medium
In systemd prior to 234 a race condition exists between .mount and .automount units such that automount requests from kernel may not be serviced by systemd resulting in kernel holding the mountpoint and any processes that try to use said mount will hang. A race condition like this may lead to denial of service, until mount points are unmounted.
CVE-2017-1000082 1 Systemd Project 1 Systemd 2022-01-31 9.8 Critical
systemd v233 and earlier fails to safely parse usernames starting with a numeric digit (e.g. "0day"), running the service in question with root privileges rather than the user intended.
CVE-2017-9445 1 Systemd Project 1 Systemd 2022-01-31 7.5 High
In systemd through 233, certain sizes passed to dns_packet_new in systemd-resolved can cause it to allocate a buffer that's too small. A malicious DNS server can exploit this via a response with a specially crafted TCP payload to trick systemd-resolved into allocating a buffer that's too small, and subsequently write arbitrary data beyond the end of it.
CVE-2017-9217 1 Systemd Project 1 Systemd 2022-01-31 7.5 High
systemd-resolved through 233 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (daemon crash) via a crafted DNS response with an empty question section.
CVE-2013-4394 2 Debian, Systemd Project 2 Debian Linux, Systemd 2022-01-31 N/A
The SetX11Keyboard function in systemd, when PolicyKit Local Authority (PKLA) is used to change the group permissions on the X Keyboard Extension (XKB) layouts description, allows local users in the group to modify the Xorg X11 Server configuration file and possibly gain privileges via vectors involving "special and control characters."
CVE-2013-4393 1 Systemd Project 1 Systemd 2022-01-31 N/A
journald in systemd, when the origin of native messages is set to file, allows local users to cause a denial of service (logging service blocking) via a crafted file descriptor.
CVE-2013-4392 1 Systemd Project 1 Systemd 2022-01-31 N/A
systemd, when updating file permissions, allows local users to change the permissions and SELinux security contexts for arbitrary files via a symlink attack on unspecified files.
